This week back at school we started new topics in Social Studies and Science. Grade 3s continue to learn about culture through hearing a story called, Westlandia, about a boy who invents his own culture. We are using that as a springboard for designing a culture of our own. Grade 4s watched a video and read some old postcards from the past to think about what it may have been like to be an immigrant moving to Canada in the past. We are creating a postcard to take their viewpoint. In science, we started reading about fossils. We will look at earth science from the perspective of natural resources by studying rocks and minerals and the resources found in Alberta's Regions. In Language Arts we started listening to a new novel, "Island of the Blue Dolphins." In this story we will learn how early explorers impacted the indigenous people, from the perspective of the main character, Karana.
